General presentation

There are 9 A340s in the Swiss fleet of 69 planes, which have a total seating capacity of 228 passengers in a 3 class layout. These planes cruise at a speed of 900km/h, and have a range of 10500km.
The Airbus A340-300 is the new flagship of the SWISS fleet. Starting in June 2003, 12 of these four-jet long-haul aircraft replaced the Boeing MD-11 aircraft. The A340-300 can, thanks to its long range, fly non-stop to all Swiss destinations around the world with a full payload.
First and Business class passengers can relax in a lie-flat seat and choose from 35 video channels, 10 games or 16 audio channels on their AVOD system with a 10.4” screen. Laptop power ports and personal phones are available for communication needs.
Economy class passengers also have AVOD on a 9” screen with 35 video channels, 16 audio and 10 games. Seats also have a personal telephone.

As mentioned by others, all the horror stories about Swiss proved to be false or highly exaggerated.
In order:
- freezing cold cabin: false. Most passengers - including me -wore only shirts
- food not good: false. As good as any Economy class, maybe slightly better
- narrow space for legs: false. As narrow as any other coach class, maybe a couple cm more than the average
- entertainement box limiting leg room: partially true, but not so annoying as someone wrote.

Now the good:
- very friendly and efficient staff. They passed several times during the 12h flight to distribute water, ice cream etc
- on time, even 30' earlier at the return flight
- relatively comfortable seats: the Recaro chairs, despite quite narrow, proved to be much better than others (Air France being the absolute worst here)
- cheaper than the competition
- Two 23 kg pieces of baggage allowed in Economy
- easy on-line check-in
- Zürich airport: efficient, clean, fast transfers via monorail, free WiFi

The less good:
- Entertainment system: as mentioned by others it's late 80's technology: small screen, no touch, low-res. It freezes and hangs up from time to time (sometimes as long as half an hour). But the movies selection is really excellent, much better than others. Not so good the music. Horrible flight real time info (the usual maps showing plane's route), much worse than others.

Will I fly again with Swiss? Definitely yes, but I hope that the new 777 planes arrive quickly.

After reading here a lot of horror stories about Swiss Economy Class, I was surprised to find nothing of that to be true.
The seats are not worse than those on any other aircraft I've flown with on the same route (KLM/747, Aeroflot/767,

Lufthansa/747), I even found the legroom to be a bit more than I was used to.
The service was very friendly (although I didn't use my german; the attendant approached me in english from the start and I

stuck to that) and the food was the usual you get in economy class with any other company plus some of the famous swiss

chocolate.
I have to mention here they even granted my request for a special meal although I emailed only about 12 hours before the

flight (the website mentions such requests have to be made at least 48 hours in advance).
On the return flight (seat 23J) I even went to the galley and was allowed to get extra food and drinks to my liking.

The flight itself was good, the flight crew was informative, and the take-off and landing were good. Our connecting flight was delayed and this flight was held. We landed on time. On the Downside the seats were uncomfortable and I suffered back pains halfway through the flight, seating was cramped, and the cabin crew was professional and helpful but not exceptionally friendly. The food was just adequate but not excessive, but tasty the small chocolate was a novel gesture. The aircraft was well-used and somewhat tired. This was my third trip with Swiss. I could not give any more than three stars, the seats were quite narrow I am of average size I would not recommend this configuration for a large person.
Airlines such as Qatar, Emirates, and Etihad offer better service.

This was my first time flying with Swissair and after this wonderful experience on flight 1885 seat 26C (Bucharest to Zurich) and flight 178 (Zurich to Singapore), I will certainly choose Swissair again! From the warm smiles of the flight stewardesses and from the way they interacted with the passengers, one could tell they truly enjoyed their jobs and everything they did was from the heart. The announcements in English were also very clear (unlike on other airlines), the food was great and the choice of in-flight entertainment was fabulous!

Leg room was ok. (Caution there is a entertainment box under the seat in front of 44K this means your öegroom is a bit less than on 44J or others.) Entertainment is good but no USB charger. Food was not awesome but ok. The sounds of the toilet are not loud! (I did not hear them) The only 2 bad things are that you will get food as last and there are People waiting for the toilet next to the seat.

Horror
Crew was arrogant, unfriendly and ignored the waste of the meal lying on the floor during the whole flight, no drinks, no snacks served. You have to pick up everything by yourself from the galley and the toilets smell was omnipresent all the time. Compared with other airlines the flight was pure stress. I will never more fly with this airline.

In spite of the box and lack of a window the seat was fine but mainly because I was occupied with reports - I would normally want a window. Service, all aspects of the cabin crew and quality of food were excellent. Will continue to use Swissair but aim for different seat. Overall I have no serious complaints and would recommend Swissair

(Bussines Class Seat) I really like this seat, it is comfortable, it has entertainment system and I love the squares in it, perhaps the service in Swiss International Airlines is great.
