Vueling Baggage and Carry-on

What is Vueling’s policy with regard to the hand baggage allowance?

Vueling allows each passenger to carry with them in the cabin:

  • One under-seat bag – free of charge for all fares.
  • One cabin bag – free of charge with Optima, Family, and TimeFlex fares, but for a fee with the Basic fare (can be dropped off at the check-in desk at no charge).

What is Vueling’s policy with regard to checked baggage allowances?

Depending on the fare purchased, passengers may have a free checked baggage allowance or not when traveling on Vueling flights:

  • Basic & Time Flex – no free checked baggage allowance.
  • Optima & Family – a free checked baggage allowance of 1 piece up to 25 kg per passenger.

For flights booked through Vueling, but operated by another airline, the baggage allowance depends on the fare:

  • Flights operated by Iberia:
    • Basic fare – hand luggage allowance only.
    • Optima fare – hand luggage allowance plus a checked baggage allowance of 1 checked bag up to 23 kg.
  • Flights operated by British Airways – hand luggage allowance plus a checked baggage allowance of 1 checked bag up to 23 kg.

When you have connecting flights with legs operated by different airlines, the most restrictive policy of the two airlines as regards baggage allowance and fare benefits applies for both legs.

Hand Baggage

The under-seat bag all passengers may take on the plane free of charge is limited in size. It must not exceed 40 x 30 x 20 cm.

Only the purchase of Optima, Family, and TimeFlex fares allows passengers to take on board free of charge one cabin bag weighing up to 55 x 40 x 20 cm and 10 kg.

Passengers purchasing the Basic fare have two options for the cabin bag:

  • Check it free of charge at the check-in desks at the airport before proceeding through security and collect it on arrival at the destination airport in the reclaim hall.
  • Purchase the “2 items of hand luggage in cabin + priority boarding” service for a fee from 9.50 to 20.00 EUR per passenger each way.

Premium members of Vueling Club and passengers traveling in Space One or Space Plus seats can also take a cabin bag plus an under-seat bag on board.

At the boarding gate, all hand luggage that does not comply with the Vueling’s regulations, i.e. that exceeds the amount, weight, or dimensions stated above or that has not been checked in at the desk when it’s not permitted on board, will be removed and placed in the hold for a fee of 25.00 EUR.

Smart luggage will be accepted as hand baggage only if the batteries, which must be 100 Wh or less, are removed and carried separately in the cabin by the passenger.

If you’re flying with a baby, everything your baby needs must be carried inside your hand baggage, but you will be able to travel with two items of hand luggage on board.

All hand baggage is verified at the boarding gate, and if it exceeds the limits (amount, weight, or size), it shall be removed and stored in the cargo hold of the plane, at an additional charge of €40 per item each way.

Excess Baggage

It’s much easier and cheaper (up to 50% discount) to purchase excess baggage online (via the website or mobile app). From the moment you buy your ticket, you can add baggage online or by calling Customer Services. Vueling offers four options of checked bags, but you can purchase only one bag of each type per passenger.

If your baggage is missing or gets damaged in any way that affects its function of protecting the contents, you must fill out a Property Irregularity Report (P.I.R.) at the lost property office of the arrival airport. You can trace the status of your missing baggage online. If the missing baggage is not found after 5 days, you must fill out the Lost Luggage Questionnaire online.
