How can I check in for an Austrian flight?
Besides the classic check-in desks available at the airport, Austrian Airlines offers a few other options which you may use:
- Web Check-in.
- Mobile Check-in.
- Kiosk Check-in.
- Late Night Check-in.
- Vienna City Check-in.
Which are the check-in deadlines for Austrian flights?
The check-in times depend on your departure airport. Check-in deadlines vary from 30 to 60 minutes before departure. Before the check-in deadline which applies for your Austrian Airlines flight, you must be in possession of your boarding pass, regardless of which check-in service you have used (by Web, Mobile or SMS Check-in or at the Self-Check-in Kiosks), and you must have checked in your baggage.
Availability and Restrictions
Up to the check-in deadline, Web Check-in is open from 47 hours before departure. You can also use Web Check-in for all Austrian Holidays charter flights from Austria and most flights to Austria.
Web Check-in is not available for flights from Dubrovnik, Sarajevo, Split, and Tirana. You can check the availability of Web Check-in for your flight and whether you can obtain a web or mobile boarding pass on Austrian’s website.
You can also use Austrian Web Check-in for many Lufthansa and other partner airlines, provided that you have an Austrian flight number on your booking confirmation. For Austrian codeshare flights operated by Eurowings, Tarom, Ukraine International, Air Malta, Air France, Luxair (flights to Vienna only), airBaltic, LOT Polish Airlines (flights to Vienna only), TAP Portugal, and Egyptair, Austrian Web Check-in is not available, and you must use the Web Check-in service provided by the operating airline.
Web Check-in is available for all passengers (including passengers traveling with checked baggage, infants or as Unaccompanied Minors, passengers who need special attention) with following exceptions:
- When the passenger has a waitlist seat.
- When traveling with a weapon.
- When traveling with special baggage in the cabin (e.g. music instruments).
- When traveling with animals (neither with a pet in the cabin, nor in the cargo compartment).
Through Web Check-in, Austrian Airlines offers its passengers the following options:
- Check in for your flight and add passengers you wish to check in but are not shown in the Web Check-in.
- Add your Miles & More number.
- Select your seat and choose seats for traveling companions.
- Select ancillary services such as upgrade to Business Class, extra legroom seat, lounge access. If eligible for your flight, these services will be offered to you automatically during the Web Check-in process.
- Rebook your flight if there are still free seats on the flight and your paid fare allows for a rebooking without a surcharge.
- Where available, print out your boarding pass or get a Mobile Boarding Pass on your smartphone.
Passengers can print out their boarding pass, but there are a few situations when restrictions apply:
- When traveling with checked baggage, you can only print out the boarding pass yourself if your flight departs from Austria or Germany.
- The following passengers can check in online, but they can obtain the boarding pass only from a check-in desk at the airport:
Mobile Check-in is available whenever Web Check-in is offered (except for Austrian Holidays flights). With Mobile Check-in, you can choose your preferred seat and have the Mobile Boarding Pass sent to your mobile device. You can use Austrian Web Check-in Info to find out whether a Mobile Boarding Pass can be used at your departure airport.
Mobile Boarding Pass
Whether you check in online from a computer or with your mobile device, a Mobile Boarding Pass will be offered if your flight is eligible. An SMS with a link will be sent to you. Access the link and you will receive your Mobile Boarding Pass with 2D barcode, flight number, name and other flight data. If you don’t receive your Mobile Boarding Pass, the Mobile Boarding Pass has been accidentally deleted, or your mobile device is not working, you can always get a Boarding Pass at a Check-in desk or Self Check-in Kiosk, but not after the check-in deadline.
Besides the option to check in, with and without baggage, and select your preferred seat and adjacent seats for up to 3 passengers traveling together, Self-Check-in Kiosks offer flexibility with rebookings and waitlists. All you need for check-in is an electronic ticket and your 6-character booking code or a card with a magnetic strip (credit/debit card) or passport for identification purposes.
Self Check-in Kiosks are available at Vienna International Airport, the City Air Terminal at Wien-Mitte Station, all airports in Germany, and Amsterdam, Copenhagen, Istanbul, London City, London Heathrow, Lyon, Stockholm, Rome, Milan Malpensa, Warsaw, etc. At Dusseldorf, Hamburg, Hanover, Nuremberg, and Stuttgart airports, it is possible to check in at the Lufthansa check-in machines.
Late Night Check-in
Late Night Check-in allows you to check in and drop off your baggage the day before your flight and is available from 24 hours prior to departure, including for myAustrian Holidays leisure flights, at the following airports: Vienna, Graz, Klagenfurt, Salzburg, Innsbruck.
Vienna City Check-in
You can check in, drop off your baggage and choose your seat up to 75 minutes before departure at the City Air Terminal at Wien-Mitte Station. Check-in is only available for passengers using the City Airport Train (CAT) for transportation to the airport (in just 16 minutes, CAT takes you from Vienna city centre to the airport). There is no charge when checking in at the City Air Terminal.
At the Vienna City Terminal, with Day Before Check-in, it is also possible to check in and drop off your luggage within 24 hours before departure. However, oversized luggage (e.g. bikes, sports equipment etc.) must be checked in at the airport, at the bulky luggage counter.
Vienna City Check-in is also available for Austrian Holidays flights.
