Unaccompanied Minor Service
Booking a flight for children traveling alone is not possible online. You must book a flight for your child traveling alone by calling Austrian Airlines Customer Service Center. You must organize any necessary travel documents (passport, travel insurance, visa for the destination country, etc.) and arrange for your child to be escorted to the departure airport and to be met at the stop over point and on arrival by adult persons. Names, phone numbers and addresses of the adults bringing the child to the airport and picking up the child from the airport must be provided at the time of booking.
Before taking your child to the airport, you should fill in the Handling Advice form and print four copies. Unaccompanied Minors can check in online, but the option to print the boarding will not be available. The boarding pass will be issued only at the airport.
Upon arriving at the airport, you must go to a check-in counter where all necessary formalities are completed: Austrian Airlines staff issues the boarding pass, provides your child with a small travel pouch for all essential documents and takes the child into custody. Ground staff will accompany your child to the aircraft and will hand him/her over to the flight crew. However, you must remain at the airport until the flight has actually departed.
During the entire flight, the Unaccompanied Minor is in custody of the flight attendants. Upon disembarking, the child is met by Austrian Airlines’ ground staff and handed over to the designated person (as stated in the Handling Advice form). The person must be available at the airport at the flight’s scheduled arrival time and prove his/her identity.
For Unaccompanied Minors, Austrian Airlines charges the fare together with a supervision charge per child traveling alone:
- Domestic (within Austria) and Europe¹ – 60 EUR (90 USD/CAD).
- Intercontinental² – 100 EUR (150 USD/CAD).
The supervision charge will be levied per flight. If an Unaccompanied Minor is traveling from Vienna to London (flight within Europe), Austrian Airlines charges 60 EUR. If the Unaccompanied Minor is traveling from Graz to London via Vienna, Austrian Airlines charges 120 EUR for these two flights. Different rates may be applicable on codeshare flights.
¹Europe (according IATA): geographic Europe, Russia, Turkey, Cyprus, Georgia, Armenia, Azerbaijan, and North Africa (Morocco, Algeria, Tunisia).
²Intercontinental: the rest of the world including Egypt, Iraq, Iran, Israel, Jordan, Kazakhstan, and Libya.
