How can I check in for a TAP Air Portugal flight?
To make your travel preparations more easily and comfortably, TAP Air Portugal offers several options from which to choose how to check in:
- Online/Mobile Check-in.
- Automatic Check-in.
- Home Check-in.
- Kiosk Check-in.
- Counter Check-in.
What check-in deadlines apply for checking-in at TAP Air Portugal counters?
When choosing to check in at the airport counter, the check-in deadlines vary from 30 minutes to 1 hour before departure.
When departing from Lisbon or Porto, you must have checked in at least 45 minutes before departure for European flights and 60 minutes before departure for intercontinental flights.
Online/Mobile Check-in is available for passengers with confirmed bookings on flights operated by TAP or Portugalia. You can complete your check-in anytime from 36 hours before the scheduled departure of your flight, with one exception: for flights to/from the US, Online/Mobile Check-in opens 24 hours before scheduled departure.
Online/Mobile Check-in is unavailable at A Coruna and Vigo airports.
If you are traveling with luggage, you will have to check it at the airport bag drop-off desk before the check-in deadline. If you only have hand baggage, you should go directly to the boarding gate. However, At the following airports, you have to collect your boarding pass at the check-in desk, even if you have used Online/Mobile Check-in:

TAP can handle your check-in for you and send you directly your boarding pass 24 hours before departure. Automatic Check-in is currently available only for flights from Lisbon if you provide at the time of booking your personal contact details, including your email and phone number.
If additional information is required by law, e.g. passport details, Automatic Check-in is only allowed if these details are included in your booking.
Home Check-In is a personalised check-in service, SKYBAGS, with baggage collection in the comfort of your home, office or hotel. The SKYBAGS service is available for passengers traveling with luggage from Lisbon Airport and can be purchased online or by phone. The service covers the following areas:
- Lisbon city.
- Lisbon to Cascais.
- Lisbon to Sintra.
- South bank of the Tagus and Lisbon District (subject to confirmation).
All passengers have to be present when the SKYBAGS employee comes to do the check-in, and a fee of €35 will be charged per passenger (special prices for children and groups). Extra bags and excess weight and size will be charged for on collection at the airline’s rates plus a surcharge of €1 per kg in case of excess weight.
To collect your boarding pass, you must go to a TAP check-in desk at least 1 hour before flight departure.
If you have not done your check-in, you may do so at the kiosks at your departure airport. In many airports, there are kiosks for self-service check-in where you can choose your seat and get your boarding pass in a few seconds. At some airports, you can also print your own luggage tags.
The boarding gates close 30 minutes prior to departure, and it’s not guaranteed that you will be allowed to board your flight if you arrive after this time. For this reason it is recommended to allow sufficient time for any queues at the bag drop-off point, security or passport control.
