Amsterdam Airport Schiphol

If you have a layover at Amsterdam Airport Schiphol – or if you’ve just arrived with some spare time – check out the stores located pre-security in Plaza Schiphol (between all gates).

These shops have enough available to keep shoppers with all budgets happy.

There’s an H&M and Mexx, as well as Aviflor and BLOEM! Shop for men’s and women’s clothing, accessories, upscale dresses and shoes, gift items, and even flowers.

Dubai International Airport

At Dubai International Airport, you can shop at Dubai Duty Free (DDF) and pick up all kinds of amazing things.

This shiny, glass-doored store opened up in 1983. It’s the world’s largest duty-free shop.

Dubai Duty Free is open 24 hours a day and it features 30 megastores offering discounted rates (up to 50% off retail) on many popular brands.

Dubai Duty Free is 161,000 square feet in size and it showcases labels like Giorgio Armani, Ralph Lauren, Emporium wine, and Hermes.

Frankfurt Airport

Frankfurt Airport offers 60 different shops, most of them in Terminal 1. You’ll find American stores like Timberland and Levi’s – as well as luxury brands like Hermes and Etro.

German-based high-end retailers like Gant and Lacoste sit alongside Porsche Design and Pfuller Kidskonzept (a luxury kids clothing and toy boutique).

You can also browse goods from Burberry, Swarovski, and Ferragamo once you’ve passed security at Frankfurt Airport.

Hong Kong International Airport

Hong Kong International Airport is always on top 10 lists for one thing or another. Along with fabulous design and dining, this airport has some fantastic shops.

Air travelers flock to the 160 plus stores in the Skymart in Terminal 1.

This grouping of retailers is one of the best in the city, offering access to designer goods from Versace, Chanel, Prada, Tiffany, Kiehl’s, and more.

London Heathrow Airport

There are more than 84 shops and boutiques to visit at London Heathrow Airport. These outfits sell essentials, luxury items, and all kinds of great things in the middle.

O.R. Tambo International Airport – Johannesburg

When you’re in South Africa, everything seems exotic and like a treat.

At the O.R. Tambo International Airport in Johannesburg, there are plenty of exciting things to pick up for souvenirs, your home, or to wear as you travel.

You’ll find some cool and funky crafts, objet d’art pieces, hand-made wood décor items, ceramics, jewelry, and more.

Terminal A’s Duty Free Mall features an incredible Out of Africa Store and a Big Five Duty Free shop where you can pick up booze.

Portland International Airport

Portland International Airport’s shopping offerings reflect the quirky city that it sits in. You won’t find tons of luxury boutiques and duty-free stores here.

Instead, travelers shop at Powell’s Books (post-security) Nike, and Made in Oregon (local beers) among other charming boutiques.

Shops like women’s retailer cc McKenzie and Columbia (sportswear) intermingle with stores selling wine and fun regional merchandize.

At Portland International Airport, you don’t pay sales tax and prices are guaranteed to be no more than what you’ll find downtown.

San Francisco International Airport

San Francisco International Airport is known for its specialty shops. Many of them sell locally-made items (like the Ghirardelli chocolate store or Napa Valley chardonnay retailer).

You’ll find places to pick up high-end goods and budget items, and some cool handmade stuff – just like in the city itself.

The best retailers are arguably in the airport’s wings, which are accessible by AirTran – past security.

There’s something for most types of shoppers here, including great products at Coach, the San Francisco Museum of Art store, San Francisco Wine Gourmet, MANGO, and Kiehl’s.
