Scandinavian Airlines (SAS) minors flying alone

Does SAS Airlines offer services for children traveling alone?

Sometimes children need to travel on their own, and SAS ensures that children traveling alone are taken care of during the flight. SAS Airlines’ Unaccompanied Minor service is available for children from 5 to 15 years of age.

The Unaccompanied Minor service is suspended for international flights until September 30, 2022.

When is the Unaccompanied Minor service mandatory?

Children from 5 to 11 years of age must use this service when traveling alone. If a child aged between 5 and 11 years of age is traveling with a person who is 16 years old or older, it is not necessary to book this service.

For children from 12 to 15 years of age, the Unaccompanied Minor service is optional. For children aged 16 and 17, this service is optional only when traveling within Scandinavia.

Requirements for Children Traveling Alone on SAS Airlines Flights

Reservations for Unaccompanied Minors can be made online for flights within Europe but must be made by calling SAS Customer Service for intercontinental flights.

For Unaccompanied Minors, a handling advice document, which contains personal information about the child, the itinerary and the name of the person picking up the child on arrival, must be filled out prior to departure. This document must be signed by a parent or legal guardian.

An adult must accompany the child to the airport and help the Unaccompanied Minor check in and with the baggage. Adults must present a valid ID at check-in regardless of destination and remain at the airport until the flight departure time. Check-in for Unaccompanied Minors must be completed no later than 45 minutes before departure.

The Unaccompanied Minor will receive help from the staff through security control to the gate and on board the flight. Once on board, a member of the cabin crew will look after him/her for the duration of the flight. Adults cannot meet the child outside the aircraft at the destination airport. SAS Airlines staff will meet the child at the aircraft, take care of the child’s baggage and accompany him/her through passport control and customs. Staff will then leave the child with the contact person, that must present a valid photo ID.

Fee

For the Unaccompanied Minor service, SAS Airlines charges DKK/NOK/SEK 350-450 for domestic flights, €30-50 for European flights and $70 for international flights, and additional charges may apply.
