Easyjet Baggage and Carry-on

What is easyJet policy on carry-on allowance?

All easyJet fares include a carry-on allowance of one cabin bag, which does not mean one piece and a small personal item like many carriers permit. Only certain passengers may take on board an additional large cabin bag.

What is easyJet policy on checked baggage?

EasyJet offers no free baggage allowance for Standard fares.

There is a free baggage allowance of one standard bag up to 23 kg for FLEXI fares.

A good tip is to book this type of luggage when booking the flights because this way is much cheaper than paying for it directly at the airport. You can add up to 3 items of checked baggage plus one item of sports equipment per passenger while making the reservation online. There is a charge for each checked item. If you need to carry more than 3 pieces, it is necessary that you call easyJet’s Customer Service Team.

The standard weight of checked baggage is 23 kg per bag. It is important for you to know that no single piece of checked baggage can weigh more than 32 kg.

The maximum size for hold luggage is 275 cm (length + width + height), with the exception of medical and sports equipment.

Carry-on

You can bring on board one small cabin bag up to the maximum dimension of 45 x 36 x 20 cm, comprising wheels and handles, and a maximum weight of 15 kg.

You can add a large cabin bag not exceeding 56 x 45 x 25 cm and 15 kg to your booking online for a fee starting from £5.99. Bringing a large cabin bag on board also entitles you to Speedy Boarding. easyJet Plus cardholders and Flexi fare customers are allowed one additional large cabin bag not exceeding 56 x 45 x 25 cm and 15 kg free of charge.

Your one cabin bag allowance includes a laptop case, handbag, briefcase, rucksack, or wedding dress carrier. Please keep in mind that all of these items will be classified as your unique cabin bag permitted. Other things permissible in the cabin, besides your one cabin bag allowance, include a shawl, overcoat, walking stick, or crutches and one standard-size bag containing duty-free products.

It is advisable to check your cabin bag size before going to the airport. You can use the Cabin Bag Sizer tool from the easyJet app (iOS only). The carry-on baggage will be verified for size with a gauge at the boarding gate. In the situation that your hand baggage surpasses the maximum dimensions when verified at the boarding gate, it will be sent to the aircraft hold, and a Gate Bag Fee of £48 will apply.

Checked Baggage

Concerning the checked luggage, easyJet will charge an extra fee for it. The easiest and cheapest way to add hold luggage to your booking is online or via the easyJet App at the time of booking, through Manage Booking, or during Online Check-in.

Checked BaggageOnlineAt the Airport
Checked Bag up to 15 kg£6.99 – 35.49 per bag (depending on the route)Not available
Checked Bag up to 23 kg£9.49 – 42.49 per bag (depending on the route)

£48 – at Bag Drop desk

Excess Weight up to 32 kg£15 per 3 kg (only in increments of 3 kg)£12 per kg

The minimum allowance a passenger, including children and infants, can purchase is one bag, and the maximum is three bags (excluding sports equipment). A standard hold bag can weigh up to 23 kg. If you need or would like to transport a heavier item, it is possible to purchase extra weight online in 3 kg increments, until a maximum weight of 32 kg per bag (up to 27 kg for a 15 kg hold bag). If your hold luggage weighs more than your pre-purchased allowance when you arrive at the airport, easyJet will charge a fee for each additional kilo.

If you add checked baggage to your booking online, the baggage allowance will apply to all flights on your booking (for example, for both outbound and return flight). If you wish to add baggage to selected flights only within a booking, or different baggage allowances for your flights, you will only be able to do this directly at the airport.

Here you can see an example of how the fee is calculated when booking a round trip London – Paris and adding hold baggage online:

  • £24.99 one-way per 1 bag up to 15 kg – £49.98 round trip.
  • £29.74 one-way per 1 bag up to 23 kg – £59.48 round trip.
  • £53.74 one-way per 1 bag up to 26 kg (£29.74 + £15 per 3 extra kg) – £90.48 round trip.

A typical characteristic of easyJet is that you can split your total baggage weight allowance, but no individual bag can be heavier than 32 kg because of safety and health reasons. For example, a passenger with two pieces of hold baggage, one 15 kg hold bag, and one 23 kg hold bag, is permitted to transport a maximum weight of 38 kg, so he or she could pool this baggage allowance by carrying one bag that weighs 20 kg and another bag weighing 18 kg.

If traveling with your spouse or friend (in general two passengers on the same reservation), you can share the total weight. For example, if each has purchased one 15 kg hold bag, the total baggage allowance adds up to 30 kg. They could share their combined baggage allowance by bringing one bag that weighs 17 kg and another bag weighing 13 kg.

Musical instruments can be transported as hold baggage items. You will need to pay the normal luggage fee. If a musical instrument weighs more than 15 or 23 kg, you are able to pay for extra weight up to 32 kg online. If you do not do this, you will have to pay for the additional weight at the airport, which will cost you much more money.

Sports Equipment

EasyJet divides sports equipment into two categories: large sports equipment and small sports equipment.

Small sports equipment comprises ski equipment, golf bags, diving equipment, snowboards, paragliders, firearms, and pole vault up to 450 cm and has a weight allowance of 20 kg, and fees are as follows:

  • If you book online£37 per flight.
  • If you pay at the airport£47 per flight.

Large sports equipment comprises hang gliders, bicycles, surfboards, windsurfing boards, kayaks, and canoes and has a weight allowance of 32 kg, and fees are as follows:

  • If you book online£45 per flight.
  • If you pay at the airport£55 per flight.

There is a limit of one item of sports equipment per passenger. Also, a maximum of six large sports equipment articles can be added per online reservation, and this is a rule even if there are more than six persons on the reservation. If you want to transport more than this number of items, it is advisable to call Customer Services.

Keep in mind that it is not possible to buy extra weight for sports equipment when booking online. If a passenger purchases the right to carry an item of sports equipment, he or she can combine the weight of this article with his or her other checked baggage.
