Is there a service offered by Cathay Dragon for children traveling alone?

For children who need to travel alone, Cathay Dragon offers the Unaccompanied Minor service. However, not all Cathay Dragon flights are eligible to accept Unaccompanied Minors, and you must check the availability of the service and ticket purchase with the local Reservations Office.

For whom does Cathay Dragon offer the Unaccompanied Minor service?

Up to their 6th birthday, children are not permitted to travel on Cathay Dragon flights unless they are accompanied by a passenger at least 18 years of age.

Children aged 6 to 11 years traveling alone must be registered as Unaccompanied Minors. For them, the service is mandatory.

For children aged 12 to 17 years, Cathay Dragon offers the Unaccompanied Minor service on an optional basis, only when requested by the parent/guardian. There will be no special arrangements if no request is made.

Unaccompanied Minor Service

Children traveling alone are accepted on Cathay Dragon flights on condition that he/she is registered for this service in advance. The Unaccompanied Minor service must be booked at least 24 hours in advance. Bookings cannot be completed online. To book a flight for a child traveling alone, you must contact the local Reservations Office.

Unaccompanied Minors can check in only at a Cathay Dragon counter. Although Unaccompanied Minor may check in earlier, Cathay Dragon will assume responsibility of the minor no earlier than 90 minutes before departure. The person accompanying the minor must remain at the airport until after the flight has taken off. Cathay Dragon will care for the Unaccompanied Minor throughout the journey until the child passenger is picked up at the arrival airport by the nominated adult. Before entrusting the Unaccompanied Minor to the person designated to pick up the child from the airport, Cathay Dragon will ask for proof of identification.

Fees

For the Unaccompanied Minor service, Cathay Dragon will apply, by sector basis, an additional service fee:

  • Between Hong Kong and all destinations in Africa, North America, South Asia Subcontinent, Europe, Middle East and Southwest Pacific: HKD 1000 / USD 130.
  • Other routes: HKD 500 / USD 65.
