What is the hand baggage allowance on Gulf Air flights?

Each passenger traveling with Gulf Air is entitled to a hand baggage allowance depending on the travel class, in addition to which some personal items may be taken on board without additional charges.

What is the checked baggage allowance on Gulf Air flights?

Effective October 2018, Gulf Air changed its baggage policy, replacing the Weight Concept by the Piece Concept.

In line with the legislation of many countries and the IATA regulations, no single piece of checked baggage may weigh more than 32 kg. Also, Gulf Air accepts only  baggage not exceeding the following maximum dimensions:

  • Length: 95 cm (38 in).
  • Height: 75 cm (30 in).
  • Width: 45 cm (18 in).

Hand Baggage

Each passenger traveling with Gulf Air is entitled to a hand baggage allowance depending on the travel class, in addition to which any of the following personal items may be taken on board without additional charges:

Total weight – 9 kg

Smart Bags powered by a lithium battery will be accepted in the cabin (weight and size permitting) only if the battery is removable. However, as long as the Smart bag is completely powered off, the battery does not have to be removed in flight. If the battery is not removable, the Smart Bag will not be accepted.

Checked Baggage

Gulf Air provides its passengers with tickets issued wholly on Gulf Air operated flights the following checked baggage allowances:

The following rules apply when the itinerary involves codeshare flights:

  • If the only flight on the ticket is a codeshare flight (a flight with a Gulf Air flight number, but operated by another airline), the checked baggage policy of the operating airline applies.
  • If the ticket includes a connection to/from a Gulf Air flight from/to a codeshare flight not operated by Gulf Air, the baggage policy of the airline operating the first segment of the itinerary applies for all flights.
  • On Gulf Air codeshare flights operated by American Airlines to/from the US or Canada, a special piece concept applies:
    • Falcon Gold – 2 pieces of checked baggage with total linear dimensions (height + width + depth) of each piece not exceeding 158 cm (62 inches) and a maximum weight of 32 kg (70 lbs) per piece.
    • Economy – 2 pieces of checked baggage with total linear dimensions (height + width + depth) of both pieces not exceeding 273 cm (107 inches) and a maximum weight of 23 kg (50 lbs) per piece.

Excess Baggage

If you are traveling your entire journey on flights operated by Gulf Air, the following excess baggage rates apply depending on when and where you pay for excess baggage and the itinerary:

  • Zone 1: the Gulf & Iraq (Bahrain, Abu Dhabi, Abha, Baghdad, Dammam, Dubai, Gassim, Jeddah, Kuwait, Medina, Muscat, Najaf, Riyadh, and Tabuk).
  • Zone 2: the Middle East, Indian Subcontinent & Africa (Addis Ababa, Alexandria, Amman, Bangalore, Beirut, Cairo, Calicut (Kozhikode), Chennai, Colombo, Dhaka, Delhi, Faisalabad, Hyderabad, Islamabad, Karachi, Khartoum, Kochi, Lahore, Multan, Mumbai, Peshawar, Sharm El Sheikh, Sialkot, and Trivandrum).
  • Zone 3: Far East & Europe (Athens, Baku, Bangkok, Casablanca, Frankfurt, Istanbul, Larnaca, London, Manila, Moscow, Paris, and Tbilisi).

Sporting Equipment

Gulf Air accepts sporting equipment for transportation as part of your free baggage allowance. If you exceed the free baggage allowance, normal excess baggage rates apply. Each sporting item must not exceed the maximum permitted weight and dimensions per piece.

Gulf Air will accept surfboards, windsurf boards and sails, kayaks and hand gliders that are within the dimensions set for extraordinary baggage 190 x 75 x 65 cm (75 x 29.5 x 25.5 in).
