Hawaiian Airlines Baggage and Carry-on

Find below Hawaiian Airlines approved luggage and carry-ons!

What is the carry-on allowance?

The carry-on allowance is limited to one piece of carry-on and one personal item.

What is the maximum weight and size allowed for checked baggage?

Hawaiian Airlines does not accept any piece of baggage that exceeds 100 pounds (45 kg) or 80 linear inches (206 linear cm).

What is the free checked baggage allowance?

For domestic flights (Neighbor Island flights – travel wholly within the State of Hawaii, North America flights – travel between Hawaii and North America), there is no free baggage allowance, except in First/Business Class 2 checked bags free of charge.

For international flights, each passenger has a free baggage allowance of 2 pieces of checked baggage.

Hawaiian Airlines will accept free of charge only standard checked bags with maximum dimensions (length + width + height) up to 62 in (157 cm) and maximum weight up to 50 lbs (23 kg) with the following weight exceptions:

  • Economy Class – international flights between the US and Australia or New Zealand – maximum weight up to 70 lbs (32 kg).
  • First/Business Class – all international flights except between the US and Pago Pago or Papeete – maximum weight up to 70 lbs (32 kg).

Pualani Gold members are allowed 2 bags free of charge. Pualani Platinum members are allowed 3 bags free of charge. Elite Members and Premier Club Members who are also the primary cardholder of the Hawaiian Airlines World Elite MasterCard receive one complimentary checked bag, in addition to their membership baggage allowance when purchasing Domestic or Neighbor Island tickets directly from Hawaiian Airlines using their card. Additional exemptions may apply (e.g. Military Baggage Exemption).

In addition to the free baggage allowance, car seats, infant carrying seats, and strollers can be checked at the gate when traveling with an infant on lap.

Carry-on Baggage

You are allowed to take with you on the plane one carry-on and one personal item (i.e. purse, laptop, briefcase, backpack, or similar item). The carry-on bag needs to comply with the following size and weight limitations:

  • 22″ height, 14″ length, 9″ depth (45 linear inches).
  • 25 pounds / 11.5 kilograms.

The first storage option for carry-on is beneath the seat in front of you. In addition, you can use the overhead compartments for storage, but these are for all passengers and used on first-come, first-serve basis. If you cannot safely store your carry-on item either way, you may be asked to check your baggage for pick-up upon arrival.

For liquid restriction, see the TSA 3-1-1 guidelines.

For fragile and/or bulky items (i.e. guitars, violins, etc.) a second seat may be purchased, at the current available rate.

Checked Baggage

Checked baggage charges are assessed per piece, each way, and non-refundable. Excess Weight and Oversize fees apply to any piece of baggage exceeding:

  • 50 pounds (23 kg) or 70 pounds (32 kg) – based on market and/or ticket type.
  • 62 linear inches (157 linear cm).

Excess Weight and/or Oversize charges will be assessed in addition to per piece baggage charges, as follows:

Lost and Found

In case you forget something on the aircraft, you are not allowed to go back to retrieve it. Just inform a Hawaiian Airlines representative about what you forgot and where you sat, and he/she can retrieve it for you. Hawaiian Airlines is not liable for items forgotten on board, but any item found on board after disembarking will be turned into the Baggage Service Department located at the airport.

For items left in the airport (ticket counter, gate, etc.), you have to contact the airport directly.

Baggage Service

Whether your travel is only on Hawaiian Airlines or includes other carriers, the last carrier must address any claim regarding lost or damaged baggage.

If your checked baggage is delayed, lost, or damaged, you must notify the Baggage Service, located at the arrival airport, about your problem. At the Baggage Service counter, you must complete in writing a Baggage Irregularity Report (BIR) or Baggage Damage Report, at least within 4 hours from arrival.

After the 5 days have elapsed and the Baggage Service counter does still not recover the baggage, the baggage case is referred to the Central Baggage Services.
