1. What is the carry-on allowance?
One piece of hand luggage is allowed with maximum dimensions of 61x40x30 cm/24X16X12 in, plus one personal item.
2. What is the checked baggage allowance?
Fees apply for all checked baggage on Spirit Airlines flights. Only transportation of the first bag can be guaranteed by the airline, and the fee that applies is $19 when paid online, and $25, when paid at the airport. A standard checked bag is defined as a bag not exceeding 62 linear inches/158cm (length + width + height) in overall size and 50 pounds/23kg in weight.
3. What about oversized/overweight and excess luggage fees?
Spirit Airlines charges the following baggage fees to excess, oversized and overweight items:
- 2nd bag: $25/$25 (paid online/at the airport)
- 3rd to 5th bag: $100/$100 (paid online/at the airport)
- Overweight (51- 70 lb/23.13 – 31.75 kg): $50
- Overweight (71- 99 lb/32.20 – 44.90 kg): $100
- Overseized (62+ linear inches /158+ cm): $100
- Overseized (80+ linear inches /203+ cm): $150
Baggage that weighs more than 99 pounds (45kg), measures more than 80 linear inches (203cm) in a single dimension, or has combined dimensions exceeding 160 linear inches (406cm) cannot be accepted for carriage.
4. How does Spirit Airlines handle special items?
Sporting equipment (surfboards, scuba tanks, bicycles etc.) is subject to a flat fee of $75.00 each leg, with the exception of golf clubs, which can be transported as normal checked baggage. Please call the airline for details regarding travel with other special items.
