To ease your way through the airport, Air New Zealand offers the following self check-in options:
For international flights, you are required to have completed final check-in no later than 90 minutes before your international flight is due to depart. Due to security reasons, on all flights operating to, through and from the U.S., you need to be checked in no later than 2 hours before your flight is due to depart.
For domestic check-in, if you are traveling with checked baggage, you are required to be checked in at least 25 minutes before the scheduled departure of your flight. Your flight may already be closed if you check-in later, and you will be required to transfer to the next available flight. If you're traveling without checked baggage, you're able to go straight to the gate to check in by scanning your barcode on your electronic ticket, ePass, or mPass and board your flight. You should be at the gate ready to board at least 15 minutes before the scheduled departure of your flight. For domestic flights, gates will be closing 10 minutes prior to departure.
When a domestic flight departs from an international terminal (e.g., flight NZ90 from Christchurch to Auckland) or the itinerary involves a connection to an international flight, passengers are required to be checked in 60 minutes before the departure of a domestic flight.
Online check-in is open within 24 hours of flight departure, and, on all flights operating to, through and from the U.S., you need to be checked in no later than 2 hours before your flight is due to depart. Online check-in is currently being tested for travel starting on the following Air New Zealand flights:

To check-in online, you have to either use the link sent in your travel email, or retrieve your booking online. Not all bookings are able to be accessed online. After you start Online Check-in, just follow the steps:
For every passenger who has successfully completed Online Check-in will be issued a boarding pass, for which you have the following options:
In some cases (e.g. when there are entry and transit requirements for the destination, or a proof of onward tickets is required), a boarding pass cannot be issued online. In this instance, your boarding pass will be issued at the dedicated online check-in counter at the airport if you meet all the requirements.
For domestic flights, Kiosk Check-in service is available in the airports of Christchurch, Auckland and Wellington. These domestic terminals are self service in style, provided with check-in kiosks, a bag drop area to place your own bags and an easy to use scanners for self-boarding at the gate. Without any bags to check-in, passengers will be able to go straight to the gate in all 26 of Air New Zealand domestic terminals, scan your boarding pass and board your flight.
For international flights, if you are traveling from Auckland, Christchurch, Queenstown, Wellington, Sydney or Melbourne and your final destination is within Australia, New Zealand, Fiji, Samoa, Niue, Vanuatu, Norfolk Island, Rarotonga, or Indonesia, you can check in using Air New Zealand self-service kiosks. You will need to scan your machine readable passport and those of your travel companions at the kiosk. If you haven't completed check-in prior to the check-in time stated, that may result in not being able to travel as planned.
If passengers are traveling on a flight operated by another airline (a codeshare flight), they will need to check-in with the operating company.
Requirements for check-in
You have to carry proof of identity with you as you may be required to present this at check-in. For domestic travel, a driver's license, passport, credit card, birth certificate, Airpoints or Koru card, or Community Services Card are all suitable forms of identification. For international travel, you’ll need a valid passport and any applicable visas.
