On SATA Air Açores and Azores Airlines flights, pets may be transported in the passenger cabin or in a heated compartment, as checked baggage.
What restrictions apply for the transportation of pets on SATA flights?
Pets accepted in the cabin or as checked baggage are dogs, cats, ferrets, guinea pigs, hamsters, chinchillas, and aquarium fish.
Parakeets and canaries are accepted for transportation only in the cargo compartment.
Farm animals, reptiles (e.g., snakes, chameleons, iguanas, turtles, etc.) and dog breeds classified as potentially dangerous in accordance with the Portuguese Law are not accepted for transportation.
The transport of pets on flights to or from England is not allowed.
Traveling with Pets in the Passenger Cabin
Information on the type of pet to be transported, the dimensions of the cage and the total weight of kennel plus pet must be given at the time of reservation, which will be subject to later approval. The veterinary documentation must be presented at the time of check-in.
Small domestic pets may travel in the passenger cabin in a cage, kennel or waterproof bag allowing the animal to turn around, lie down or stand up. Pets are allowed in the passenger cabin if the total weight of the pet and container does not exceed 8 kg.
The maximum dimensions of the container are 55 x 40 x 20 cm, and only one pet per container is allowed.
Fee
Pets transported in the passenger cabin will not be included in the carry-on allowance and are subject to an additional fee:

Service Animals
SATA Air Açores and Azores Airlines will accept for transportation a Service Animal required to assist a person with a disability. Deaf or blind passengers (partial or total) may travel with a Guide Dog provided that a pre-notification has been done and confirmed. The animal must be properly harnessed and certified as having been trained by a professional Service Animal institution. The Guide Dog shall be transported free of charge, in the cabin or in the hold. If transported in the cabin, the dog must remain on the floor at the passenger’s feet and may not occupy a seat.
