Midwest Airlines minors flying alone

Is there a service offered by Frontier Airlines for children traveling alone?

Frontier Airlines offers the Escort Service for children traveling alone as Unaccompanied Minors.

Which age restrictions apply for Unaccompanied Minors on Frontier Airlines flights?

Children aged 5 years and younger are not accepted for travel on Frontier Airlines flights without a companion at least 15 years of age.

Children from ages 5 to 14 are allowed to travel alone only as Unaccompanied Minors in the conditions imposed by the Escort Service.

Children from ages 15 to 17 may travel alone as adult passengers without any restriction, on any Frontier Airlines flight. They also have the option to travel as Unaccompanied Minors with Escort Service if the service is requested by a parent or responsible adult.

On which Frontier Airlines flights may children travel alone?

Unaccompanied Minors are accepted for travel on flights operated by Frontier Airlines or its regional affiliates. The Escort Service is available for children traveling alone on both domestic and international flights.

Children aged 5-14 years traveling alone will be accepted only on nonstop flights. Unaccompanied Minors are not allowed to travel on connecting itineraries or direct/through flights (flights that make a stop between the origin and destination).

Frontier Airline will not accept Unaccompanied Minors for travel if a flight is expected to terminate short of, or bypass, the child’s destination, or if there are anticipated lengthy delays at the origin or destination city due to air traffic control, weather or other factors.

Unaccompanied Minor Escort Service

All Unaccompanied Minors will be given Escort Service provided they hold confirmed reservations on Frontier Airlines from the origin airport to the destination airport for flights originating or terminating in the United States, Costa Rica, Mexico, Jamaica, and the Dominican Republic. The child must be brought to the airport of origin by a parent, guardian, or responsible adult. Frontier Airlines will not accept Unaccompanied Minors under the responsibility of any other carrier’s Unaccompanied Minor program.

You can book travel for your child traveling alone online or by calling Frontier Airlines Reservations. The following information is required at the time of booking:

  • Name, phone number, and address of the person dropping off the child at the airport
  • Name, phone number, and address of the person picking up the child upon arrival at his/her destination (must be a named person and cannot be an organization such as a youth camp).

To complete all necessary formalities when you accompany your child at the airport, Frontier Airlines recommends that you check-in at least 2 hours prior to departure. You must complete the Unaccompanied Minor Request For Carriage Form at check-in. To save time, you can complete the form online and print it before leaving for the airport.

You must remain with your child until he/she is aboard the plane. To escort your child to the gate, you must obtain an escort pass from the ticket counter. During Courtesy Boarding, a Frontier Airlines representative will escort your child onto the plane, assist with any carry-on bag, and introduce your child to the crew. Regardless of the Fare Option purchased, all Unaccompanied Minors will be seated in the last rows of the aircraft. This allows the flight attendants to better supervise your child traveling alone. You must wait until the plane has departed the airfield before you leave the airport.

A complimentary beverage and snack are included in the Escort Service fee and will be provided if your child's flight offers this service. However, Frontier Airlines cannot provide an allergen-free environment, and snack items may contain nuts (including peanuts or peanut butter), soy, dairy, eggs, or wheat.

Frontier Airlines will only release the child to the designated person who must bring photo identification and arrive at the airport early enough to obtain a pass from the ticket counter. The escort pass will allow the person picking up your child access through security to meet your child at the gate. Upon arrival, your child will have a personal escort from the aircraft to the designated pick-up person and won't be released until the identification has been reviewed by a Frontier Airlines employee.

Fees

For children 5-14 years of age traveling alone and passengers 15-17 years of age for whom the Escort Service was requested the Escort Service Charge for Unaccompanied Children will be charged to cover extra handling, a beverage, and a snack. This fee is not included in the ticket cost and is due when the child is checked in at the airport, but may be paid in advance by calling Frontier Airlines Reservations. Only one service charge will apply per direction for all Unaccompanied Minors in the same reservation (the drop off/pick up information is the same). Unaccompanied Minors who are EarlyReturns Summit or Ascent members do not pay a fee.

Based on the Fare Option of the ticket purchased, Frontier Airlines will charge the following fee, each way:

  • $ 50 – for Classic Plus, Classic, and Economy1 Fare tickets.
  • $ 100 – for Basic2 Fare tickets.

1The lowest fare booked online at flyfrontier.com.
2The lowest fare booked through other travel agencies.
