Are there any conditions for the acceptance of children on LATAM Airlines flights?
If the child is up to one week old, he or she will require medical certification in order to fly. Minors up to the age of 12 years must travel with a legal adult on the same airplane.
Does LATAM Airlines offer discounts for infants and children?
For infants without a seat, the infant fare is, usually, 10% of the adult fare. For domestic flights (except to/from Easter Island), LATAM charges no fare, boarding fees, and taxes for infants without a seat.
For children from 2 to 11 years of age, child fares may be available on certain routes. Child discounts vary between 25% and 33% of the adult fare and are applicable only for travel in the Economy cabin. If the child will travel in Premium Economy or Business cabin, the child fare is unavailable.
If your infant becomes a child during the trip (on his/her second birthday), you must purchase a ticket to ensure the return trip. You may opt to purchase a ticket only for the necessary segments or to purchase a round-trip child fare ticket. Until the day your child turns 2, you must use a child safety seat approved for use in aircraft if you have reserved a seat for the entire trip.
Infants
Each adult can share the seat with an infant (baby under 2 years of age) paying only a percentage of the fare plus boarding fees and taxes. If an adult is traveling with two babies, then, for their safety, the adult will need an additional seat and must pay the fare for one child. In this case, the baby will require a child safety seat certified for use on an airplane, which must be provided by the passenger.
Bassinets
A baby may be safer and more comfortable in a bassinet. To be eligible for this service, the baby must not weigh more than 10 kg and must be less than 71 cm long. Requests for bassinets should be made at least 48 hours before departure through LATAM Airlines Contact Center. Bassinets are not available in Premium Economy and Business Class. Bassinets are available on the following aircraft, in Economy Class:
- Boeing B767 300 – 1 bassinet per aircraft.
- Boeing B787-8 and Boeing B787-9 – 2 bassinets per aircraft.
Baby bassinets are offered free of charge, but the service is subject to the purchase of a Space+ seat.
Comfort items that create a bed for children (e.g., Bed Box, Fly Away, inflatable pillows, etc.) may be used on board LATAM flights, but not during taxi, takeoff, and landing. The use of these items is allowed only in window seats or middle seats of the middle row.
Baggage Allowances
The baggage allowance for children and infants paying a child fare is the same as for adult passengers, dictated by the purchased fare and route.
For infants without a seat, you may take with you in the aircraft cabin:
- One baby bag (45 x 35 x 20 cm).
- A stroller, child seat, or bassinet (may be transferred to the hold if there isn’t space available in the cabin).
Children’s Menu
On international routes, LATAM offers special meals for children. Adults can request this service at least 24 working hours before the flight. The service is not available on domestic flights or flights within South America, or for children aged under 2 years.
