Etihad Airways Baggage and Carry-on

What is Etihad Airways policy with regard to carry-on baggage?

Baggage may be carried on to the aircraft, in accordance with Etihad’s conditions and limitations. Some articles, classified as personal items, can be taken on the aircraft in addition to the carry-on luggage allowance.

What is Etihad Airways policy with regard to checked baggage?

The checked baggage allowance is set by the Weight Concept and applies to all Etihad flights except those to/from the US and Canada.

For flights originating or arriving in the US or Canada, the baggage allowance is set by the Piece System.

For tickets booked via Etihad Airways with at least one of the flights operated by a codeshare partner, the baggage allowance of the airline that operates the longest flight, either outbound or inbound, will apply.

Carry-on Baggage

For carry-on baggage, each item must not exceed the maximum total dimensions of 115 cm / 45 linear inches (56 x 36 x 23 cm). The number of items, as well as the maximum weight of carry-on baggage, depends only on the travel class, and not on the route:

  • Economy Class1 bag with a weight of up to 7 kg.
  • Business Class and First Class – 2 bags with a weight of up to 12 kg, plus 1 foldable garment bag.

Also, one personal item weighing up to 5 kg and with maximum dimensions of 39 x 23 x19 cm can be taken on the aircraft.

Checked Baggage

In accordance with UAE Civil Aviation regulations, no single item of baggage should exceed 32 kg in weight.

Maximum dimensions for any piece of checked baggage are:

  • 158 cm (70 x 50 x 38 cm) – to/from the US and Canada.
  • 207 cm (90 x 72 x 45 cm) – to/from all other destinations.

Checked baggage allowances depend on the route and travel class:

Baggage Services

Any incidents involving your checked baggage should be reported on arrival in order to be given a Property Irregularity Report (PIR) from Etihad Baggage Services Counter (or Ground Handling Agent) prior to leaving the airport. In case of delayed baggage, you can use the File Reference Number to trace your baggage online. In case of damaged baggage, you must quote the File Reference Number when submitting a Baggage Claim Form. If you discover that your baggage has been damaged after leaving the airport, you must complete and submit a Baggage Claim Form within 7 days of arrival.
