When traveling on an EL AL Israel flight, various options are available for passengers to check in before or after arriving at the airport:
- Online Check-in.
- Mobile Check-in.
- Quick Check-in at a Kiosk.
What deadlines do I need to consider when checking in at the airport?
Deadlines for checking in at the airport differ from airport to airport. Check-in closes about one hour before departure.
As a minimum, EL AL requires passengers to present themselves for check-in (including the security check) no later than 3 hours for Economy Class passengers and 2 hours at the latest for Business and First Class passengers, before the scheduled departure time of your flight. Since a security check is carried out before the check-in counter is reached, passengers are advised to arrive at the airport approximately 4 hours before the departure time.
Online Check-in
With Online Check-in, passengers holding an electronic ticket are able to check in online anytime between 1 day and 3 hours before departure. Check-in for flights after Sabbath or holidays can be completed before the start of the Sabbath or holiday. Online Check-in is available for flights between Tel Aviv and most EL AL destinations (most European destinations, Los Angeles, New York, Toronto, Bangkok, Beijing, Bombay, Hong Kong, Johannesburg, etc.).
Online Check-in allows you to choose and/or change your seat. It is possible to check in a group of up to 9 passengers listed on the same flight reservation.
Passengers should print the boarding pass before arriving at the airport in order to shorten the waiting time at the airport. If you have a pre-printed or mobile boarding pass and checking-in at the airport is not required, you are required to commence border control (passport) formalities no later than 2 hours and 15 minutes before the departure for Economy Class passengers, and 1 hour and 30 minutes before departure for First and Business class passengers.
Mobile Check-in
Passengers can use EL AL’s mobile app to manage flight reservation easily, conveniently, and quickly. Among other features, the mobile application enables passengers to use the Check-in Service on a mobile phone and, where available, get the boarding pass on a Smartphone.
Mobile Boarding Pass
With the boarding pass on the phone, passengers can go through all the service stops at the airport quickly: at Passport Control, at check-in counters, at the boarding gate, at Duty-Free shops, and even at the entrance to the plane. At each station, passengers can display the boarding card on the phone, without the need of printing out a paper boarding card.
A Mobile Boarding Pass can be used at the following airports: Brussels, Amsterdam, Marseilles, Paris, Barcelona, Vienna, Frankfurt, Munich, Zurich, Geneva, Budapest, Prague, Sofia, Warsaw, Johannesburg, Newark, Toronto, and Los Angeles.
Quick Check-in at a Kiosk
Passengers can check in at EL AL quick self-check-in kiosks at the airport. The service is offered in Tel Aviv (Ben-Gurion Airport), New York (Newark Airport), Los Angele, Prague, Kiev, Moscow, Amsterdam, and Bangkok.
Passengers can perform Quick Check-in for a flight, choose a seat on the flight and print out their boarding pass. After that, if they have baggage for the hold of the plane, they can bring it to the check-in counter for depositing baggage. The Quick Check-in service does not exempt passengers from the security check at the airport.
Unaccompanied children and passengers with disabilities are requested to go to the Assisted Passengers check-in counters.
Boarding
Boarding gates close about 10 minutes before the departure time. If you fail to arrive at the boarding gate in time and, as a result, the space reserved for you is canceled, EL AL Israel may charge you with the costs incurred for unloading your checked baggage and other costs solely as a result of your late or non-arrival at the boarding gate (such as, but not limited to, denied boarding compensation paid to a passenger who was denied boarding since EL AL was unable to reassign your unused seat at the last minute).
