Emirates - Airbus A340 500 DescriptionThe new Emirates Airbus A340-500 is the first of a new generation of passenger airliners. This long-haul plane has a range of 16050km and was designed to offer the most comfortable and enjoyable journey available. It offers you more personal space, a quieter cabin and a wider range of inflight entertainment than ever before. It is also the longest-range large passenger aircraft in service with any airline - which means reduced journey times and fewer stopovers on long-haul journeys from Dubai to Australia, Japan and America. The First Class seat can be adjusted to any of eight preset angles of recline, from fully upright to fully flat, or fine-tuned to any position in between. Its footrest can be extended and retracted as you choose, and the seat's lateral position can also be adjusted forwards and backwards, to bring you closer to your desk for when you want to work or eat, or further away so that you can watch a movie or simply stretch out. And if all that’s not enough to relax you, your seat will even give you a massage – its multimode programme can be set to gently stimulate your head, neck, back and legs. With four vibrating pads and five different settings, you’ll be refreshed from head to toe. Your personal telephone allows you to make calls to anywhere in the world at a low standard rate (at just US$5 a minute, it's least expensive and most used of all in-flight telephone systems). Your phone can also be used for calling any other seat on the aircraft, free of charge - or even to send a text message to another seat. If you want to catch up on some work during your journey, your suite is also equipped with a laptop power point. moreTo better serve you, Business Class aboard the new Emirates A340-500 is divided across two separate cabins, allowing for greater privacy and a high degree of personal attention from your cabin crew. Your surroundings are relaxing – clean and contemporary, they provide the perfect environment in which to enjoy your journey. A 2-2-2 configuration means that every Business Class passenger has either a window or aisle seat, and also means greater privacy if you’re travelling with a partner. Your hand-held mode controller allows you to take charge of your journey. With it, you can alter the pitch of seat, select a movie, enjoy a huge collection of music, or call for the attention of one of our dedicated Business Class crew. In Economy Class, the seats are arranged in a 2-4-2 configuration (as opposed to the traditional 3-4-3 layout), which means more space and more privacy, particularly for couples travelling together (and also means the end of the dreaded ‘double excuse me’ when leaving a window seat). The seats themselves are wider and more comfortable, and come equipped with a personal 10-inch video screen on which you can enjoy more than 500 channels of entertainment (including movies-on-demand – another first for Emirates Economy Class). The Economy Class seat delivers an unusually high level of comfort. Wider, and with more leg room plus the option to extend the seat by 6 centimetres, it allows you to really stretch out – and a generous recline makes it easier to find your own personal comfort zone. The video on demand system means that you can watch the movie you want, when you want. You can choose from hundreds of films from almost every genre imaginable - from the latest Hollywood and Hollywood blockbusters to timeless classics, world cinema, musicals, animation - with many titles also available in Arabic, Japanese, Indian and European languages. closeThe Wall

Detailed review on Emirates Airbus A340 500 by Sami
I liked the interior of the flight not to mention no footrest, it was a good flight. But the service of the attenders were very poor which made everyone very angry. But the entertainment system is very good and apt.

The Economy seats on this Aircraft A340-500 would be the most uncomfortable I have ever sat in. When you recline the back the seat raises up and you are left with your legs hanging in space and an awful lump under your thighs.
Business Class - Brisbane to Glasgow - very uncomfortable for a Business Class eat. A340-500 again.Dont sit in the back rows - too much noise from the bar.
Business on A380 excellent - loved it - Sydney to Dubai. First on the A380 Dubai to Sydney - unbelievable. I made the mistake of sitting in Row 1 - window seat - there were two drunk men in the bar all night - most unpleasant.

I have flown in Emirates First, Business and Economy class. Emirates I believe is the better airline for international carriage, this may be biased on my part as I fly internationally all the time but I have never had a bad flight. I have always been looked after, they have always known my name and never had a problem with the entertainment side of things.
Yes the screen freezes during the announcements but they are required to freeze it so that they know that all people on the flight have heard it.
If you are going to get an Emirates flight between Dubai and Melbourne get the direct flight as it is generally the newer aircraft and has the more modern features.
With First Class there is not a single fault with it.

First class seats are really spacious. These seats where the first suites to fly, but no one made them as much publicity as the ones on Singapore Airlines because they're not in a new plane. These seats are really private and can turn into a flat bed. I think that Singapore Airlines copied this ones in its A380.

The in flight entertainment is very varied but the screen is very small and every time an announcement is made - in three languages each time - the screen freezes and very often the games lock up.
