Austrian Airlines - Airbus A320 Description

There are 8 Airbus A320s in the fleet, six in the Austrian fleet and 2 in the Lauda fleet. This plane is used on short and medium-haul flights, it cruises at a maximum speed of 980kph and has a maximum range at full payload of 11920km. It has a total seating capacity of 150 passengers, divided into two classes. The middle seat is left free in Business Class and the separation between classes is flexible.

Austrian Airlines and their partners Lauda Air and Austrian Arrows, fly to 130 destinations in 66 countries, over 5 continents and have a total of 103 planes between them. Lauda Air run charter flights from their hub in Venice.

On short-haul or medium-haul flights on Airbus A320s and A321s, cartoons or short films are shown on flights over 1 hour 20 minutes. On flights over two and a half hours, documentaries are shown and on flights over 3 hours, film are shown. If you prefer to listen to music, 8 audio channels are available. Headphones are free of charge for Business Class passengers on flights over 1 hour 20 minutes and for Economy Class passengers on flights over 2 and a half hours.

Trivia Tip: If you are travelling with Lauda, you could be in the company of “Ray Charles” or “Frida Kahlo”!!

There is nothing fancy about Austrian Airlines. They're essentially a national, low cost carrier. They get you on and off. Nary a smile to be seen on the face of the cabin crew. Some of the 320s have new type seats which place the magazine rack higher, thus allowing a bit more legroom, despite the bone crushing seat pitch. I had the new type outbound to Athens, but inbound was the older type and the seat was not very comfortable at all. Austrian is a cheap, reliable alternative to Ryanair and other low cost carriers for getting around Europe and allows you to earn points with Miles and More. Just don't expect much in the way of onboard service.
