US Airways Baggage and Carry-on

What is the carry-on allowance on US Airways flights?

On US Airways flights, passengers are allowed to carry with them on board one carry-on bag plus one personal item. Based on the stowage capacity of the aircraft, US Airways may impose additional limitations for carry-on baggage.

Carry-on baggage may not be permitted on some US Airways Express flights due to space limitations. On flights operated by Trans States, PSA, Piedmont, Colgan or Air Wisconsin, passengers are allowed 2 carry-on items: one personal item (in the cabin) and one small carry-on bag (tagged and placed in the cargo bin, upon arrival, the bag will be returned plane-side or in the jetway).

What is US Airways checked baggage policy?

The normal baggage allowance on US Airways flights includes the first and second checked bag, weighing no more than 50 lbs (23 kg) and measuring (length + height + width) no more than 62 inches (157 cm). Checked baggage that exceeds the maximum number, weight, or size will be subject to excess baggage charges.

Based on itinerary, US Airways may assess a fee for the first and second checked bag. Also, baggage fees may be waived for some passengers depending on itinerary, class, frequent flyer status, etc.

What are the maximum weight and size allowed for checked baggage?

US Airways does not accept any bag that weighs more than 100 lbs (45 kg) or has a linear dimension (length + height + width) greater than 80 in (203 cm). On itineraries to/through/from Europe, US Airways does not accept any bag that weighs more than 70 lbs (32 kg).

Carry-on

A carry-on bag includes, but is not limited to: a suitcase, a sport bag, a shopping bag, a small duffel bag, etc. A personal item includes, but is not limited to: a briefcase, a purse, a laptop, a camera, a diaper bag, a small backpack, etc.

Your carry-on baggage must not exceed 40 lbs (18 kg) in weight and a total of 45 in (115 cm) in size (combined length, width and height, i.e. 14 x 9 x 22 in or 36 x 23 x 56 cm). A carry-on bag must fit in the bag sizer, which indicates that the bag can be stowed under the seat in front of the passenger. All carry-on items (including personal items and items exempt from the baggage count) must fit in approved carry-on locations: valet closet (where available), overhead bin or under the seat in front of the passenger. A carry-on bag can be substituted with a “soft” foldable garment bag up to 51 inches (130 cm), provided that the garment bag can be stowed easily in the overhead bin or valet closet (where available).

The following articles are allowed in the cabin, free of charge, and do not count toward the carry-on allowance (size and weight requirements for carry-on baggage do not apply): coats/wraps, assistive devices, one safety seat for a lap or ticketed child, and a small bag of food.

Checked Baggage

You can check your baggage at the curbside, an airport kiosk or the ticket counter. When checking baggage at any US Airways skycap (available only for domestic flights), you must pay a $ 2 curbside fee, in addition to the baggage fee (only credit cards are accepted). You have the option to check your baggage and pay first and second checked bag fees when you check-in online. Then, with your printed or mobile boarding pass, drop your bags at any of the mentioned locations.

In addition to the checked baggage allowance, the following items are also allowed:

  • Mobility assistive devices (wheelchair, cane, etc.).
  • Infant assistive devices (car seat or stroller).
  • Required medical supplies or equipment.

Baggage Delivery Service

Starting June 4 2013, for flights departing from any U.S. domestic locations or select U.S. territories or international pre-clearance locations, and arriving at one of the 130 airports served by Bags VIP, you can skip baggage claim and have your baggage delivered to a location of your choice within 100 miles of the airport.

You must book your delivery and pay the baggage delivery fee on www.maketraveleasier.com/usairways at least 1 hour before your departure and check your bags at the airport. The baggage delivery fee is separate from the US Airways baggage fees and depends on the number of bags and distance from the airport to the location you chose.

Baggage Service

If you lost an unchecked item, you should know that US Airways keeps lost and found items at the airport where the item was found for approximately 7 days.

If your bag is damaged, you must notify a US Airways representative in person at the airport. All reports must be made within 4 hours of your arrival for domestic travel and within 7 days for international travel.

If your bag is delayed, you should notify a US Airways representative before leaving the airport and within 4 hours of your arrival. If you already reported your delayed baggage, you can check the status of your delayed bags online. US Airways may reimburse you for reasonable items such as toiletries while you wait for your delayed baggage. If your bags have not been located within 5 days, you must submit a Passenger Property Form to the Central Baggage Resolution Office, by mail or fax.
